A highly reputed academic in the marketing field, Prof. Kimmy Chan has established an extensive body of high-calibre studies while simultaneously serving in editorial roles at numerous top-tier journals. Beyond her personal scholarly achievements, she has shown exemplary leadership in research supervision and a profound commitment to nurturing the next generation of scholars. These qualities are fully demonstrated in her unwavering support and individualised mentorship for her students and junior faculty.

Prof. Chan consistently sees herself as a facilitator and advocate, dedicated to guiding students in their acquisition of knowledge and their personal development. Her four-pronged mentorship “CARE” approach, standing for Commitment to Communication and Responsiveness, Advocacy for Student Well-being, Recognition of their Achievements, and Encouragement and Empowerment, fosters an effective academic environment that is conducive to students’ success both professionally and personally.

Over the past years, Prof. Chan has supervised 13 doctoral students who progressed to resounding success, with many winning prestigious accolades for their impactful dissertations. These include the Winner of the Young Scholar Research (YSR) competition in 2025, Organizational Frontline Research Symposium, Winner of the SERVSIG Best Dissertation Award in 2024 presented by the distinguished Service Special Interest Group, and the Honourable Mention for the prestigious 2023 Psychology of Technology Dissertation Award. 

Her students have published premier articles in high-impact publications such as the “Journal of Consumer Research” and the “Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.” They have also presented their findings in top-ranked international conferences such as those of the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Academy of Consumer Research (ACR), and the European Marketing Academy Conference (EMAC), among others. This track record of student success testifies to Prof. Chan’s clear focus on prioritising quality over quantity in her supervision.

In addition to her direct supervision of doctoral candidates, Prof. Chan has guided more than 70 postgraduate and undergraduate students in group-based final year projects and advised more than 20 undergraduate students at different stages of their studies. She actively engages with these students, helping them to navigate a variety of challenges.

Prof. Chan has successfully secured multiple competitive grants, including from the General Research Fund. While she is more than qualified to act as principal investigator, she regularly takes on the co-investigator role with junior faculty members. By lending her wealth of experience and connections in conducting research and securing competitive funding, Prof. Chan showcases her ability to inspire groundbreaking projects and support her junior colleagues.

Her commitment to student development is further evident in her role as Director of the Research Postgraduate Programme at the School of Business. Most notably, she has invited leading international scholars who are listed as top 2% scientists by Stanford University to share their insights, significantly enhancing our students’ knowledge and benefiting their career growth. Under her leadership, the School’s research postgraduate programme has also seen a significant increase in application numbers and an enhanced research performance.
